THE METHOD · 4 STEPS

From analysis
to action.

Choose what to check. Review the results. Address the issues, then check again.

01Understand

Choose the right controls.

Google indexing, crawler access, page content… Start with what you need to check. The guide explains what each control checks, what information to prepare and its limits.

Choose my controls
02Check

Analyse the page and its sources.

Enter a URL. Review the findings, the sources used and any missing information. See what has been checked and what still needs completing.

04Recheck

Check again after each fix.

Run the same controls on the same page, with the same expectations. Compare the new results with the previous ones to see what changed and what still needs attention.

TS04robots.txt rulesPartial observation

A file received.
An intention to clarify.

  1. Understand

Define which pages crawlers should be allowed to access.

  2. Check

In this example, robots.txt contains a Disallow directive for /prive/.

    Open the robots.txt excerpt
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /prive/
    Inspect the complete source
  3. Act

Specify which crawlers should access which pages, then compare these intentions with the received rules.

  4. Recheck

After a change, read the rules again and check access with the same scope. Keep both readings.

An observed directive alone does not prove a crawler’s effective access.

A FEW ANSWERS BEFORE YOU START

It all becomes
clearer.

Your page, your choices, your next step.
Answers to help you move forward.

Start my analysis
Can I just enter a URL?Yes. One URL is enough to start with all 44 controls.

TSEP collects available public sources and shows what can be observed and what information is missing. A URL alone cannot validate all 44 controls.

Analyse my page
How do I choose the right controls?Start with an objective. Your controls stay with you through the results.

Choose an objective from the home page. The numbers below your URL show exactly which controls are selected. Use “Personalise my analysis” to adjust them. The same choices stay with you through the results.

Choose my objective
Will my whole website be analysed? You explore one page and a few related sources.

You choose one page. Analysis reads its HTML and a few related public sources: robots.txt, sitemaps and a sample of links. It does not crawl every page on your site or sign into private areas.

Choose a URL
Why are some results partial? An observation provides facts. More information may still be needed.

A source cannot answer every question. For example, TSEP can read robots.txt but does not yet know which access you intend to allow. Each control separates observations from what still needs checking. “Partial” does not mean “failed”.

What should I do after the first results?A next action shows you how to move forward at your own pace.

Follow the next action shown in your results. Depending on your controls, it asks you to clarify your intentions, compare the page or add information. You can choose “I do not know yet”: the point stays open and you can continue. Your choices never change your site.

Where can I find and keep my analyses?Resume your work in “My analyses” and download your evidence.

“My analyses” keeps your draft and results in this browser session. You resume the same URL and controls. Download the sources and your choices and information to keep a copy. Signing in with Google does not recover a lost session or analyses on another device.
